HANDFUL OF GRAVEL is a live performance of US Poet Laureate Emeritus Juan Felipe Herrera's poetry about the War in Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic. It features music, dance, voice, and screen imagery created by Herrera with a cast of performers who include UCR students and faculty. Departing from previous conceptions of poetry, this production presents poems as dynamic planes directly entangled in dance transmissions and vocal exchange within a radical field in global space. It proposes that all things are related and influence each other.
This event is sponsored by the UCR Retirees' and Emeriti Associations, UCR Departments of Dance and Creative Writing, UCR Office of Gift Planning, UCR CHASS Dean's Office, UCR Center for Ideas and Society, and UCR Osher.
