The UCR Emeriti and Retirees' Associations are excited to welcome you to the CUCRA / CUCEA 2025 Spring Meetings. While you are here to collaborate on issues important to both Emeriti and Retirees, you will be able to enjoy springtime on our beautiful campus and downtown Riverside.
We are truly excited to host this spring's meetings so that you can come together to discuss, provide information and updates, meet and socialize with new and returning members, and as a group we can continue to support each other to promote our group interests within UC.

- The CUCRA and CUCEA Meetings will be located inside the UCR Alumni and Visitors Center beginning on April 23, 2025 on the main floor. On April 24, 2025, one session will occur on the main floor and the second session will occur on the 2nd floor (session locations to be confirmed).
- Once inside the building, the registration tables will be toward the right.
- There is a short flight of stairs toward the back left that will take you down into the main room.
- An elevator is also available straight to the back once you’ve entered the building.
- To access the second floor, a flight of stairs is located on the left upon entering as well as the elevator access.

- Virtual participants will receive Zoom links in April for the virtual meetings sessions prior to the start of the meetings.
- To prevent any distractions of background noise, please mute your devices.
- Include location with your name.
- It is recommended to “right click” on your name shown in the participant list in Zoom and click on “rename” and add your location by your name such as “Scotty Highlander, UC Riverside.”

- Participants with questions may submit them in the chat box or use their “Raise Hand” feature located in the control panel within Zoom to alert the host to address your question. At that time, please unmute your device and ask the question.

Meals
Meals will be provided and available at the Alumni and Visitors Center except for the reception and dinner which will be held at the Culver Center of the Arts. Please review menu selections provided below and in the registration form for dinner on April 23, 2025 and individual lunch boxes on April 24, 2025. Be sure to make your selections within your registration.

Things to Do and See in Downtown Riverside
Just outside the doors of the Mission Inn is the heart of Downtown Riverside offering a walkable environment with a wide variety of amenities, from diverse dining options and specialty coffee shops to lively entertainment venues and cultural attractions. We have highlighted some of the local attractions that are a short walking distance from the hotel that you may be interested in.
Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture
Opened in June 2022, aka “The Cheech” resides in a renovated mid-century building that originally opened as the City of Riverside, California’s public library in 1964. Dedicated to showcasing Chicana/o/x art, honoring and exploring its continued social, cultural, and political impact, it’s the first cultural center of its kind.
The Cheech is home to the unparalleled Cheech Marin Collection of Chicano art. It is a space for continued exhibition, scholarship, and dialogue of Chicano art’s deep roots in the Chicano Movement of the 1960s and 1970s to its contemporary and evolving response to current social conditions and global artistic movements. The Riverside Art Museum (RAM)
Housed in a architecturally significant 1929 building which Housed in a former YWCA facility designed by Hearst Castle and AIA Gold Medal-winning architect Julia Morgan, RAM is Located in the historic Mission Inn district of downtown Riverside
The building’s distinctive architecture as a work of art in its own right brought it to the attention of the Riverside Art Center in the 1960s. The building is now home to artists and art lovers as a place to quietly roam and experience the world of art. Discover a wealth of opportunities to learn and be inspired in our galleries where there’s something to pique everyone’s interests and to challenge their perceptions of what art is.

Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties
Housed in the Citrus Belt Savings and Loan Building. The circa 1920s structure features a Spanish Baroque façade and is now the home of the Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties. The Center is a dynamic institution dedicated to promoting social justice, civil rights, and equality. Established to honor the legacy of those who fought for justice and civil liberties, the center serves as a focal point for education, activism, and community engagement.
At the heart of the center's mission is a commitment to fostering understanding and addressing the challenges faced by marginalized communities. Through interactive exhibits, educational programs, and thought-provoking displays, the center explores the history of social justice movements, civil rights struggles, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.
The center offers a range of exhibits and displays that shed light on significant historical events, individuals, and organizations that have played a role in shaping civil liberties and social justice movements. These exhibits provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the struggles and triumphs of marginalized communities and inspire them to take action. Givaudan Citrus Variety Collection at UCR
California and most citrus-producing regions of the world have benefited from the existence of the UC Riverside Citrus Variety Collection. From the birthplace of citrus in China and India to the newest reaches of citrus ventures in Chad and Turkmenistan, the Citrus Variety Collection has provided information, new citrus hybrids, plant material and a spirit of local as well as global cooperation.
The Citrus Variety Collection was initiated in 1910 by staff of the Citrus Experiment Station and USDA researchers soon after the establishment of the Citrus Experiment Station at the original site in Riverside on the slopes of Mount Rubidoux. In June of 1917, Webber, the first director of the Citrus Experiment Station, guided the installation of the Citrus Variety Collection on five acres of land adjacent to the new site of the CES in what is now the UC Riverside campus. to learn more, visit the Givaudan Citrus Variety Collection at UCR webpage.
UC Riverside
Just a short distance traveling up University Avenue, you will come to our beautiful UCR campus. If you are new or a return visitor, you will find that while the campus still retains its collection of architecturally significant building in a leafy and green quad atmosphere; the campus has expanded offering new building and communities. Included is the new North District offering residential accommodations for students, retail and services. In an innovative partnership with the Riverside Community College, students from both campuses will be able be housed in the same campus community. Along with a new building for the School of Medicine, School of Business , as well as a new garden which enhances UCR’s bee-friendly status.

Parking and Transportation
There are many ways to travel and participate in the CUCRA / CUCEA 2025 Meetings. to help you make an informed decision regarding your travel needs, we are offering the following information to help you decide what is best for you.
Shuttle
If you plan on staying or parking at the hotel during the conference, we will be offering round-trip shuttles to and from the Mission in to the UCR campus for the duration of the events and meetings.

Traveling to and From Airports
Traveling by car
- Ontario International Airport (ONT) - the closest option to Riverside is about 25 minutes away (depending on traffic) traveling east on the 60 freway.
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes away (depending on traffic).
- John Wayne Orange County Airport (JWA) - approximately 52 minutes away (depending on traffic).

On the UCR Campus
Parking arrangements can be made by request in the Bannockburn South lot next to the UCR Alumni and Visitor’s Center. Attendees who plan to drive to UCR for the meetings and not use the shuttle service must notify the Retirement Center Director at retirees@ucr.edu by March 23, 2025 to ensure parking space availability.
Retirees and Emeriti Association members from other UC campuses who have a valid retiree/emeriti parking permit may receive parking reciprocity at UCR-Lot 24. Please notify the Retirement Center Director by March 23, 2025 to receive instruction on obtaining parking reciprocity.
